Cerebral hemiatrophy associated with hematological and developmental disorders
نویسنده
چکیده
The etiology of cerebral hemiatrophy may be congenital or acquired. Trauma, infection, vascular abnormality, ischemic and hemorrhagic conditions may be the etiologic factors in acquired type. There is limited information about its association with other disorders in the literature. We presented three new cases of cerebral hemiatrophy associated with some hematological and developmental disorders. Cerebral hemiatrophy was associated with thalassemia major in a 10-year-old girl, acute myeloblastic leukemia and Marfan syndrome in a 23-year-old man, and craniosynostosis in a 1-year-old boy. To the best of our knowledge, thalassemia major, myeloblastic leukemia, Marfan syndrome and craniosynostosis have not been reported in cerebral hemiatrophy in the literature. INTRODUCTION There are sporadic reports of unilateral polymicrogyria with ipsilateral hemiatrophic cerebri associated with epilepsy, focal neurological deficit and mental retardation. The mechanisms which cause this condition are not well understood. The aim of our study was to delineate further, clinical and neuroimaging features of this malformation of cortical development and to explore its ...
متن کاملA case of incontinentia pigmenti associated with multiorgan abnormalities.
Incontinentia pigmenti is a systemic disorder affecting the skin, teeth, eyes, nervous tissue, hair, nails, musculoskeletal system, and heart. We describe an 11-month-old girl with incontinentia pigmenti associated with a ventricular septal defect, left hemiatrophy, hemangiomas, an abnormal labial frenum, and spastic cerebral palsy manifested as left hemiplegia and developmental delay. We belie...
متن کاملParry-Romberg syndrome associated with intracranial vascular malformations.
We describe a 23-year-old woman with iridocyclitis, enophthalmos, facial hemiatrophy, and transient numbness of her contralateral upper and lower extremities. The patient was found to have white matter densities in the right hemisphere in magnetic resonance T2-weighted images and vascular malformations involving right vertebral, right carotid, and right anterior cerebral arteries. Histopatholog...
متن کاملTeaching NeuroImages: progressive facial hemiatrophy (Parry-Romberg syndrome) with ipsilateral cerebral hemiatrophy.
A 52-year-old man presented with left hemifacial atrophy (figure 1) beginning at age 25. There were no neurologic symptoms. Neurologic examination showed no deficits, and the limbs were symmetric. Brain MRI demonstrated left cerebral hemiatrophy (figure 2) and lack of the ipsilateral soft facial tissue. Progressive facial hemiatrophy (PFH), or ParryRomberg syndrome, is a sporadic disease of unk...
